'Walking Backwards into the Future’, a solo presentation by Chiraag Bhakta, features work in various media— including photography, video, sound and assemblage. Taken together, the artworks presented here sheds light on the multiple ways that design enters our daily lives, from banal marketing to the construction of identity and personal memories.
Chiraag Bhakta is a multidisciplinary artist currently living in California. He was raised in an independent motel on a New Jersey freeway surrounded by a rotation of extended family. His practice is rooted in collecting objects and stories from various times and environments. Trained as a graphic designer, is a meticulous archivist of displaced objects and stories from various times and environments. He expands his understanding of design beyond graphics to include the study of social and political systems.
