During his residency time at HH Art Spaces, Imran has explored his interest in theatre and performance, stemming from constructed situations he directed for the compositions of his paintings. This work was inspired by an article he read in The Hindu titled "Rest Is Still a Favour," which discusses how textile workers are expected to remain standing throughout their working hours despite having the legal right to sit.

Through gestures, repetition, movement, and the space itself, we expressed the ideas using the objects available to us in the space. The performance revolves around three characters—the Worker, the Owner, and Memory. Through a dice game and Aadu Puli Aatam, it explores power, control, collective resistance, and the everyday reality of workers who are denied something as basic as rest.

Memory initiates a dice game with the audience, where the board represents memory itself and the dice symbolize power, guiding the movement of the game pieces. Throughout the performance, the Worker embodies the physical and emotional realities of standing for long hours, expressing stress, anxiety, exhaustion, and restlessness through repeated movements. In contrast, the Owner occupies a space of comfort, surrounded by different chairs, with one chair accompanied by a pillow to emphasize the privilege of rest.

Developed in collaboration with performance artists @anu_aava , @hannaameen_ & @priyankavijayakumarr__ and inspired by the writings of Mukesh @_plinth_part , the work brings together performance, objects and audience participation.
